Our story

A little sugar shack on El Camino Real.

Sugar Shack Cafe — known to regulars as Rose's Sugarshack — is a small, family-run breakfast diner on the corner of El Camino Real in San Clemente. Rose and her husband run the shop themselves: hand-scrambled eggs, stacked stuffed French toast, and a warm word for everyone who walks through the door. It's the kind of place surfers stop into on the way back from the point, still salty, still hungry.

Meet Rose

She runs the shop, and she’ll probably remember your name.

Rose and her husband run Sugar Shack together — cracking jokes with folks waiting for a table, calling regulars by name, and cooking most everything themselves. It’s a small shop with a big personality, exactly the way they like it.

What you’ll find here

Homemade mornings, no fuss.

Homemade, Always

Nothing comes out of a box. The gravy, the hash browns, the whipped cream on the French toast — Rose makes it herself, the same way she has for years.

Generous Portions

Plates come out stacked, not styled — this is a breakfast built for people who worked up an appetite before they got here.

Open Every Morning

Seven days a week, 7 AM to 2 PM. No reservations, no fuss — just show up and grab a table.

Small & Personal

It's a tiny shop, and that's the point. Rose knows the regulars' orders, jokes with everyone in line, and treats every table like family.

What guests say

From the regulars.

The breakfast burrito is stuffed to the seams and the cinnamon roll on the side should be illegal. This is our go-to before every surf session.

A regular, on the breakfast burritos

Small, cozy, and the staff — especially Rose — make you feel like you've been coming here for years. The Eggs Benedict alone is worth the wait.

A first-time visitor

It's tiny and it gets busy, so go early. But it's the kind of quiet, friendly mom-and-pop spot that's getting harder to find on El Camino Real.
